Frequently Asked Questions

Q.

How is Permapave kept clean?

A.

Permapave is an effective filter which requires contaminants to be removed periodically. Cleaning can be performed with use of a wet-dry vacuum or the Permapave Cleaning Machine. Frequency of cleaning depends on the contaminant profile of the area and the frequency of rain events.

Q.

Just how permeable is Permapave?

A.

Permapave Pavers have a flow through rate of up to 1.5 gallons per second per square foot depending on the type and size of the stone.

Q.

How strong is Permapave?

A.

Permapave Pavers (including 12” x 12“ flag pavers) comply with the required standard. Pavers can be manufactured to have a transverse breaking strength between 4,000-8,000 PSI.

Q.

What sizes are Permapave Pavers available in?

A.

Segmental Pavers 12” x 12” x 2”. Flag Pavers 16” x 16” x 2”, 8” x 8” x 4”. Other sizes may be made, depending on the quantity of the order.

Q.

Can Permapave products be retrofitted?

A.

There are numerous instances in which Permapave products can be retrofitted.

  • Existing metal storm water grates can be replaced with custom made Permapave stormwater grates.
  • Curbside storm water grates can also be retrofitted with custom made Permapave Lintel Grate covers.
  • Brick around sidewalk and median strip plantings can be taken up and replaced with Permapave Pavers.

Q.

Can Permapave be used in conjunction with traditional paving products?

A.

In many situations this is ideal, such as in large urban paved areas like malls. Here, Permapave Pavers or stormwater grates would be best laid in strips where water is likely to collect. Permapave Pavers can also be laid on the edges of bitumised roadways in conjunction with bio-retention pits to filter contaminated roadway stormwater run-off.
